 A Brief History of Lake Fork

Lake Fork Reservoir is located approximately five miles west of Quitman and about an hour and a half drive from Dallas, Tyler and Longview.  The lake has 5,000 cleared acres for boat lanes and plenty of open area near the dam. 

When Lake Fork Is at it's full level, it covers 27,690 acres, or 43 square miles, with approximately 315 miles of shoreline.

The lake was first opened to fishermen in the fall of 1980, and has since gained the reputation as the Fishing Capital of Texas.

Currently, Lake Fork boasts the state record largemouth bass catch, at18 lbs. 3.5ozs.  Of the top 50 bass in Texas, 36 were taken on Lake Fork, making it one of the premier trophy bass lakes in the country.

Lake Fork also offers excellent fishing for blue gill, redear, crappie, and catfish, in addition to its renowned bass.
